LAHORE: Amid the border tensions, police launched 380 combing operations in Lahore and other parts of Punjab, taking 61 suspects into custody in the last 24 hours, a police spokesperson said on Friday.

The spokesperson, sharing details, said a total of 14,000 individuals were checked during the 380 combing operations. Additionally, 3,483 individuals were interrogated during separate search and sweep operations, leading to the arrest of four suspects, he said.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar said the operations were intended “to keep a strict watch on terrorists and anti-state elements”.

The police chief said that mock exercises were also being carried out “to deal with any unforeseen situation, emergency situation, prevent threats, safely rescue citizens, and further improve response time”.

Personnel from Punjab police, Elite Force, Coun­ter Terrorism Depart­ment, Special Branch, Res­cue 1122, Bomb Disposal Squad, and other law enforcement agencies participated in these exercises.

“In view of the current situation at the boder , mock exercises will continue to ensure security, law and order, and relief activities,” the provincial police chief added.
