RAWALPINDI: A merchant navy officer was shot and injured by robbers on G.T Road near Rawat on Sunday.

Nasir Aslam, a resident of Kallar Syedan, lodged an FIR with the Rawat police saying that his nephew Talha Kiani, a navel employee and resident of Bahria Town Phase VIII, had to go to the airport at night to receive his cousin who was arriving from Dubai. He left his house for the airport in his car at 12:30am.

Mr Aslam said later he received a phone call from the District Headquarters Hospital that Mr Kiani was in the hospital. The robbers shot and injured him and took away his car along with an iPhone and some. The injured was shifted to the hospital by Rescue 1122.

Mr Aslam told Dawn that his nephew, a second officer, was lying in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. He said police had registered a case and launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, a man was gunned down in Dhamial on Sunday. Police said Malik Aqeel Haider was passing through Girja Road when he was shot by some motorcycle riders. The victim died on the spot.

Police said the motive behind the murder seemed to be an old enmity.
