KARACHI: A sessions court imposed a fine on a shopkeeper for slapping a woman customer after an altercation between them over the price of earrings at a shopping mall in Clifton.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) Abdul Zahoor Chandio found Noor Muhammad guilty of committing an offence under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), imposing a fine of Rs20,000 on the convict as punishment.

According to state prosecutor Irfana Qadri, the complainant stated that in July last year, she had gone shopping with her sister at Gulf Shopping Mall in Clifton. During their visit to an artificial jewellery shop, they selected a pair of earrings for purchase.

However, when both parties failed to mutually agree on a price, the shopkeeper allegedly misbehaved with the complainant and slapped her, causing her eyeglasses to break and resulting in bruises on her face.
